In order to use our Bantam Tools CNC machines, you will need a computer with Bantam Tools Milling Machine Software installed. This guide describes the minimum system requirements to run the software.
Because the software is free, we recommend that you download and try it before ordering a milling machine. If you have any questions about whether the software is compatible with your computer, please contact us at support@bantamtools.com.
Operating System
Version 2.1.0 supports Windows 8.1 operating systems and above.
CPU
The software requires a 64-bit CPU. An Intel Core i3 or equivalent is required, and a Core i5 or equivalent is recommended.
Graphics
The software requires a graphics driver that provides support for OpenGL 2.1 or higher. The largest source of incompatibility on Windows is with graphics drivers that provide incomplete or no support for OpenGL 2.1. We’ve found that older Intel graphics drivers tend to have buggy OpenGL support.
Graphics cards whose drivers are no longer being updated by the manufacturer can cause incompatibility with our software.
Additionally, we’ve received reports that upgrading from an earlier version of Windows to Windows 10 can cause driver incompatibility. For best performance, use a computer with a dedicated graphics chipset.
The software’s 3D Preview requires support for the following OpenGL extensions. Without these extensions, the software will still function but will not show the 3D preview.
- GL_EXT_frag_depth
- GL_EXT_framebuffer_object
Memory
The software requires 4GB of system RAM or higher. 8GB or higher is recommended.
Storage
The software consumes less than 100MB of hard drive space. An SSD will provide higher performance.
Communications
A USB 2.0 port is required to connect to the milling machine.
USB hubs and extensions can cause problems. It is best to use a USB cable that ships with the machine, or a USB cable under six feet long.
